Lazarus Rising Review 04x01

Part 1:
Dean first awakes from the dead. Waking up in his coffin 4 months after his death when hellhounds shredding his body to pieces and took his soul to hell. On the search for Sam, he gets in contact with Bobby who think he is a demon pretending to be Dean. For Dean to persuade Bobby that it is actually him, he cuts himself with a silver blade. After finding Sam, and convincing him that it really is Dean they try to find out who set Dean free. They go to see Bobby’s friend Pamela, a psychic that can have a séance to summon who ever did so. She gets in contact with Castiel, but at a price of becoming blind. Dean and Bobby try to summon Castiel, which they are successful but leaving Bobby unconscious, while Dean and Castiel spoke in private; reveling that he is an angel.

Part 2:
Being the first episode of season 4, Lazarus Rising was filmed well. The first scene when Dean wake up alone truly shows his isolation. There was no soundtrack or background music playing. This also enforces the theme of the mystery and unknowing of what is going on.  When Jensen wakes up you can see the in his face and fear that he will die slowly in the coffin while he tries to dig himself out of his grave. When he arises from the grave you can see his struggle gasping for air and his confusion of where he is and how long has it been.
The acting throughout this episode was superb. The truly moment that captures Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Jim Beaver’s capability of acting is when Bobby and Sam see each other for the first time in so long. It purely shows the emotion and connection that these actors have together. They show conflicting emotions at the same time, love love, gratefulness, confusion and uncertainty all because Jensens characters body should be rotting in the ground in the middle of nowhere. Also Traci Dinwiddle character Pamela Barnes is a great one. Her ability to react to nothing is truly something when she is summoning Castiel. Also when she losses her capability to see you can tell the fear running through her body and voice before she passes out. Between Sam and Dean you can show the secrets how they are find from each other. While Jared is still seeing Ruby portrayed by Genevieve Cortese. You can see how Jared plays off how he is betraying his brother while loving that he is saving innocent people while sending demons to hell without killing the humans body. You can see how Genevive deceives Sam saying that she wouldn’t get in between him and his brother, you can see it in her eyes that she is meaning to do damage to the family.
The setting where Sam and Dean meet for the first time is interesting. Usually the motel room resembles the place where the brothers are located, but this time the room is sexualized with mirrors on the ceiling and the animal print walls. Even the door had a heart around the door number. This is unusual for the series but it also resembles a non sexualized setting for a reunion between the two brothers.
Since this is the first episode of the season, it is our first time seeing the new series new opening scene. The wings in the beginning is for the new character Casteil and could have been expected. Also the black wings are very symbolic for the upcoming episode and seasons because he does get kicked out of heaven for his relations with the Winchester brothers.

Part 3:

How did they come up the new plot twist of Castiel and was it in the time running, such as was this planned out before hand or just a on the spot creation and writing meeting. This episode opened a lot of new ideas and throughts for where the series is going to head, did you think the new character Casteil would be a main character like he became or reoccurring character that only was seen twice a season. Also, the make up for the burnt eyes such as Pamela and the demons in the dinner, how did they create that effect.
